EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, FLORIDA - An agreement has been signed by Colonel Gloystein, AFRL Munitions Director and our CEO Shelia Cummings to set up a multiyear Cooperative Research And Development Agreement (CRADA) with Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Munitions Directorate. The agreement establishes an internship program to foster the development of young Scientist and Engineers (S&E’s) as they enter the work force. This CRADA partnership is the first of its kind for both parties and will benefit everyone involved.
The collaboration between AFRL and Cummings Aerospace, enabled by the CRADA, will provide both interns and their mentors with valuable insight into industry along with the Air Force technologies and capabilities to develop the next generation of weapons. Additionally, this opportunity demonstrates the committed relationship and shared strategic vision between industry and AFRL to find new and innovative ways to address the challenges of future weapons science and technology needs.
Every year AFRL puts out a list of internship projects for the upcoming year. In 2017 AFRL has 45 projects to choose from, of those 45, Cummings Aerospace will have two summer internships (Graduate and Undergraduate) in additive manufacturing. Cummings Aerospace mentors Todd Gordon and Steven McClendon will work alongside AFRL/RW government mentors to develop a 10 week summer internship program that will help guide our additive manufacturing efforts.
“We are excited to establish a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) focused on expanding the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Outreach program. The CRADA allows us to achieve one of our corporate missions; to grow the next generation of Scientist and Engineers by exposing them to cutting-edge research and technology.” - Sheila Cummings, CEO
